CENELEC is the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization.
The members of CENELEC are the National Electrotechnical Committees of the member states of the European Union and EFTA.
The Technical Committees (TC) and Sub-Committees (SC) are responsible for the preparation of the European Standards (EN).
New standardization initiatives originating in Europe are offered to the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC with the request that they will be undertaken at international level. Only if IEC does not want to undertake the work, or if it cannot meet CENELEC target dates, does the work continue at European level.
